Well simulator for operation of wells equipped with ESP installations with complete ARMARIS software package.

The integrated interactive simulator for oil well operation (OWOS) is designed to train and improve the skills of oil and gas production specialists on the mock-ups of mass-produced ground equipment combined with mathematical modelling and tracking of processes running in the virtual system "reservoir - well - ESP - wellhead".

Three-level training system

Level 1:
computer simulator - OWOS-K

Automated learning system. Mathematical models of processes running in the virtual reservoir, well and ESP installations were implemented. Ground and underground equipment - in 3D version. OWOS-K implements the principle of conceptual development of main and auxiliary equipment, allows to practice the actions of the trainee in the main modes of well operation, to detail knowledge of operational schemes and functionality of devices and equipment

Level 2:
portable simulator - OWOS-P

OWOS-P is the same OWOS-K to which desktop layouts are connected
wellhead fittings, control station controller and equipotential measure. With the help of these layouts, OWOS-P allows the trainee to practice the actions of the trainee not only on a computer, but also on equipment specially designed for this purpose. By observing the reaction of the "reservoir well - ESP installation - ground equipment" system to all its actions, the trainee consolidates the skills and abilities acquired during training to manage individual technological processes.

Level 3:
full-scale simulator - OWOS-PM

In this case, the computer simulator is no longer equipped with desktop models, but with full-scale layouts based on serially produced wellhead fittings, control stations and an equipotential bonding unit. With the help of OWOS-PM, the trainee practices the actions of service personnel in situations as close to real as possible, making the appropriate efforts and moving from one element of ground equipment to another. At the same time, it is possible to work with the automated group measuring unit (AGMU) not only in virtual but also in full-scale execution.

Experience of implementation

About 25 years have passed since the idea of creating a OWOS - ESP installation appeared. During this time, more than 150 licenses of the complete ARMARIS software that ensures the functioning of the OWOS were provided to universities and training centers of a number of oil companies, and 4 portable and 9 full-scale versions of the simulator were delivered. OWOS is one of the results of high-tech research and development of CSMR LLC, which are implemented in specific oil companies that are interested in this. For example, in the period from 1994 to 2015, such a company was PJSC Tatneft, and from 2003 to 2013, we also actively worked with LUKOIL – Western Siberia LLC. After 2015, our main "budget-forming" product became OWOS - ESP. That is, the power of "market formation", marketing and so on around OWOS we are just starting to do. But now, thanks to the experience gained, it is clear that this product and all the developments that ensure its further development are becoming more and more popular.

It is known that the majority of oil in Russia is currently produced by ESP installations and the ability to work with this type of pumping equipment is an extremely important competence of the oilman. If we consider the hypothetical situation in which a teacher has the opportunity to work with a group of students on a real oil well with a real pump, it is unlikely that such a group will be able to acquire many practical skills, given that it is not possible:

to stop the well, as this would result in significant financial losses;

change the characteristics of the reservoir and the pumped fluid (this will require classes to be held in different regions of the country);

experiment with different types of down hole pumping equipment (this will require a long and costly well work over);

work on putting the well into operation (there is a risk that the pump will fail);

at the desired moment of time to create complicated operating conditions for the development of work skills and psychomotor reactions of service personnel in such conditions at the Department for Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Deposits at the oil university.

When operating wells with ESP installations, there is a rather compact complex on the surface of the ground - a control station with control electronics, wellhead valves of the well itself and a system for measuring production. All this can be easily accommodated in a normal classroom. A mathematical apparatus will be used to simulate the results of interaction between the "reservoir - well - submersible equipment" system and models of real ground equipment placed in the classroom. There is no doubt that such a simulator will eventually become part of the global Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas project for innovative training of future oil industry personnel that is currently being implemented.

In order to implement a method of short-term operation of wells on a commercial scale, it is necessary to improve the skills of personnel. Serial but state-of-the-art equipment is used in unconventional operation modes. Oil companies' specialists need to be taught how to operate it competently. This problem can be solved by developing domestic scientists and engineers. "The simulator for operating wells equipped with ESP installations was developed by CSMRneft LLC of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The simulator has all the necessary certificates and several prototypes have already been supplied to Russian oil companies
The simulator has several options ranging from computer and tablet-based simulators, which are placed on a table, to full-scale simulators, where actual field equipment is used as layouts.
The simulator makes it possible to simulate typical situations that arise when operating wells using submersible centrifugal pumping units.
The computer included in the simulator package contains software with various scenarios of events that may occur during certain actions by personnel. The scenarios are developed on the basis of customer requirements and correspond to typical field conditions of a particular oil company.
In this model, new principles of field modeling are applied based on an innovative approach to algorithms for processing a significant amount of results of instrumental research conducted earlier.

The principles of field modeling, which are being developed by CSMRneft LLC scientists, are primarily focused on fields at a late stage of development.

Many explored hydrocarbon fields in the Irkutsk region are now entering the integrated development phase. At the same time, highly qualified specialists are required to carry out the technological process of oil production. Applying integrated control of the well management system, specialists must have the necessary skills to assess, interpret and make competent decisions based on large volumes of data, and if emergencies occur, be able to eliminate them. This simulator is designed to teach students, workers and technologists how to operate such complex equipment. The simulator is based on powerful software. It simulates all real equipment and situations that arise during its operation.

The TPP developer is CSMRneft LLC of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. Three prototypes of the TPP were supplied to Russian oil companies and the Gubkin Moscow State University of Oil and Gas. The fourth one will appear at IrSTU. The simulator is provided with a database of oil fields in different regions with typical factors complicating operations in these areas. Verkhnechonskneftegas is currently recruiting oil and gas production operators. Theoretical and practical training courses are a prerequisite for hiring. We will be able to offer such a course once the thermal power plant is installed in TOC-BP's IrGTU.
